FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQs - TREATMENTS

Is it safe to have a facial during pregnancy?

Yes - many treatments are perfectly safe during pregnancy, including gentle facials and microneedling without active ingredients that are contraindicated. We avoid laser, IPL and certain actives as a precaution. Please let us know when booking so we can tailor your treatment appropriately.

I’m not sure which treatment to book - how do I know what I need?

Don’t worry about choosing the “right” facial. Every appointment begins with a thorough assessment of your skin, concerns and goals, and the treatment can be adjusted accordingly on the day. Skin changes frequently, so a personalised approach always gives the best results.

What treatment is best for pigmentation or sun damage?

Fractional Radio Frequency is the ultimate treatment for textural irregularities, scarring, wrinkles and pigmentation to help reduce sun damage or hyperpigmentation. Depending on your skin type and the cause of the pigmentation, we may recommend a tailored course combining several treatments.

Do you treat rosacea or very sensitive skin?

Yes, sensitivity is extremely common, and treatments are adapted to support and strengthen the skin barrier rather than aggravate it.

Which facial should I book before an event?

For immediate radiance with minimal downtime, our Ultimate Radio Frequency Facial (otherwise known as the ‘Red-Carpet Facial’) was designed by Teresa to give her clients the ultimate glow ahead of a big event or party, by boosting hydration, smoothing texture and enhancing your glow. Although there is no downtime with this treatment, we generally recommend scheduling this 1 or 2 days before an important event.

Do you treat teenagers?

Yes, with parental consent. Early treatment can help manage acne and prevent scarring.

Can I book directly with Teresa?

Yes. Teresa works in our Notting Hill clinic Monday-Friday. She is also available at Claridge’s every other Friday. Her appointments are longer, highly personalised and typically focus on complex skin concerns or long-term skin strategy. Availability is limited, so we recommend booking well in advance.. Her treatments start at £380

How long do the facials take?

Most treatments are approximately 55 minutes, though some advanced or combined treatments may be longer. Exact durations are listed on each treatment page.

How do you book a treatment course?

All of our treatment courses are listed on our website. You can book a course via this page

Alternatively, you are very welcome to call our Flagship Clinic on 020 3983 4100 and a member of the team will be happy to assist you.

Do you offer treatment gift vouchers?

Yes, you can purchase a Gift Voucher that is redeemable against treatments online, or in our clinic.

I’ve never had a facial before, will it be uncomfortable?

Most treatments are very comfortable. Some procedures may involve mild discomfort, but we always work within your tolerance and explain every step.

I don’t live in London, can I still get advice?

We offer remote consultations from anywhere in the world. We also share general guidance through our on-site SKIN GUIDE pages, our newsletter, where Teresa answers common questions and provides practical skin advice, and Teresa’s Substack.

FAQs - EXTRACTIONS

What are extractions?

Extractions are the careful removal of congestion from the pores — such as blackheads, whiteheads and blocked sebum — using professional techniques that minimise trauma to the skin. Left untreated, this build-up can contribute to breakouts, dullness and uneven texture.

At Teresa Tarmey, extractions are performed as needed during every facial to ensure the skin is thoroughly cleansed and able to function properly. This is a key part of achieving clear, balanced skin over time.

Do extractions hurt?

Extractions can be uncomfortable in congested areas, but they should never feel intolerable. The skin is properly prepared beforehand to soften blockages and make removal as gentle as possible, and we always work within your comfort level.

Most clients describe the sensation as brief pressure rather than pain, and any discomfort passes quickly.

Will my skin be marked afterwards?

You may experience temporary redness, slight swelling or small marks where congestion has been removed, particularly if the skin was very blocked beforehand. These usually settle within 24 -48 hours.

Treating congestion professionally helps prevent the inflammation, scarring and infection that can occur when pores are squeezed at home.

Will my skin break out afterwards?

Extractions are included in every treatment, so any congestion present in the skin is carefully removed. As a result, some clients may experience temporary redness, small marks or minor swelling in areas that were treated, particularly if the skin was congested beforehand.

Occasionally, underlying blockages that were already forming beneath the surface may emerge in the days following treatment. This is not a new breakout, but part of the skin clearing process, and it typically settles quickly.

Most clients find their skin looks clearer, calmer and more balanced as healing progresses.

Why are extractions so important?

Congestion cannot be removed effectively with products alone. Professional extractions clear the pores so the skin can breathe, heal and respond better to treatment and skincare. Regular removal helps reduce breakouts, improve texture and maintain long-term skin health.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQs - MICRONEEDLING

What is the downtime after microneedling?

Microneedling typically involves mild redness for 24–48 hours, similar to a light sunburn. Some clients experience slight dryness or flaking as the skin renews. Most people return to normal activities the following day.

Can I have a treatment before travelling or sun exposure?

This depends on the treatment. Some procedures increase sun sensitivity, so timing is important. If you are planning travel, please let us know when booking so we can advise accordingly.

Is microneedling painful?

Microneedling should feel controlled and manageable rather than painful. In clinic, the skin is carefully prepared and the treatment is performed with expert precision so discomfort is kept to a minimum. Some areas of the face can feel slightly more sensitive, but most clients describe the sensation as mild pressure or a scratching feeling rather than pain.

When will I see results from microneedling?

Many people notice their skin looking brighter and more refreshed within a few days. The deeper benefits, such as improved texture, stronger skin and increased collagen production will develop gradually over several weeks as the skin renews itself.

Why does Teresa prioritise microneedling?

Microneedling is a cornerstone of Teresa’s clinic because it works with the skin’s natural repair processes rather than forcing dramatic change. By stimulating collagen and encouraging healthy renewal, it gradually strengthens the skin over time, building long-term skin strength and health.

What exactly does microneedling do for the skin?

Microneedling creates tiny controlled micro-channels in the skin. This stimulates the skin’s natural repair response, encouraging collagen and elastin production. Over time this helps improve texture, refine pores, soften fine lines and strengthen the overall quality of the skin.

What skin concerns can microneedling help with?

Microneedling can be beneficial for a wide range of concerns, including uneven skin texture and tone, fine lines and early signs of ageing, enlarged pores, mild scarring or acne marks, dull or tired-looking skin. It’s particularly effective for improving overall skin quality rather than targeting just one issue.

How often should I have microneedling?

For long-term improvement, microneedling is often performed as a course of treatments spaced several weeks apart. Many clients then continue with occasional maintenance treatments as well as the Microneedling Kit at home to keep the skin healthy, strong and resilient.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Microneedling is often combined with other treatments depending on the skin’s needs. In the clinic, it may be paired with technologies such as IPL, LED or gentle exfoliation to support overall skin health.

Is microneedling suitable for all skin types?

Microneedling is suitable for most skin types when performed correctly. During your consultation, we will assess your skin and tailor the treatment to your exact needs to ensure it is both safe and effective. If you are planning travel, please let us know when booking so we can advise accordingly.

CLEANSE

FAQs - PRODUCTS

Will the TT Cleanser it remove makeup and SPF?

Can I use it if I have acne?

Yes. Gentle cleansing is essential for acne-prone skin. Over-cleansing or harsh formulas can worsen inflammation and barrier damage.

Evening cleansing is essential to remove sunscreen, pollution and debris. Morning cleansing can be lighter, depending on your skin type.

TREAT

FAQs - PRODUCTS

Do I need all of the treatment products?

No. Most people benefit from one or two targeted treatments rather than layering multiple actives. Overloading the skin can lead to sensitivity and reduced results.

Can I use these products together?

Can I use retinol if I have sensitive skin?

Yes, but start slowly - for example, every other night - and increase frequency as tolerated.

Can I use it if I have active acne?

PROTECT

FAQs - PRODUCTS

What SPF do you recommend?

Daily sun protection is essential. Our SPF 50 provides broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB as well as environmental stressors such as pollution.

Do I need SPF every day, even in the UK?

Yes. UVA rays, which drive ageing and pigmentation, are present year-round and penetrate clouds and glass.

Will it leave a white cast?

No. The formula is designed to blend seamlessly into the skin, just massage in until it disappears completely.

Can I wear it under makeup?

Yes - it layers really well and provides a smooth base for your primer or foundation.

How much should I apply?

The rule of thumb is approximately two finger lengths for the face and neck. Squeeze a line of product from knuckle to nail along the inside of your index and middle fingers, then apply to face and neck.

How often should I reapply?

Every two hours when outdoors, and after swimming or heavy perspiration.
